THE PNP is in the process of assessing the vulnerabilities of schools throughout the country ahead of the opening of classes in public schools on June 16.

In an interview with radio DzBB, PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo said the police force is educating school security guards to preempt crimes.

“(We’re looking into the) security and safety of our schools,” said Fajardo. We’re conducting site and security inspections to check the vulnerabilities of the schools.”

Fajardo said policemen are “scanning” schools to determine problems in security.

“If there are (security) problems, we are going to relay these to the schools so these can be addressed,” said Fajardo.

Last Saturday, Fajardo said the PNP will deploy some 37,000 personnel to ensure peace and order during the opening of classes.

Yesterday, Fajardo said the PNP will also set up police assistance desks in the vicinity of the schools to make sure students and teachers will be safe during the school opening.

Fajardo said policemen have also been instructed to conduct patrols in the vicinity of schools.

Fajardo said these measures will be coordinated with the school administrators.

Responding to questions on the PNP’s future programs, Fajardo said the police force will be educating school security guards to deter crimes.

“We are going to orient them to detect would-be criminals. They should not just sit. They should also observe what’s happening outside (the schools,” said Fajardo.
