THE PNP activated its regional office in Negros Island Region (NIR) yesterday, nine months after President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. signed a bill into a law that created the region.

The PNP said the activation of the Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region was in accordance with the President’s directive “to enhance security and governance” in the region.

It added that the move was pursuant to a National Police Commission resolution issued last January 9.

The activation of the PNP regional office in Negros Island Region brought to 18 the number of PNP police regional offices across the country.

Brig. Gen. Jack Wanky was designated as the officer-in-charge of the new office. Col. Dennis Esguerra was named as the office’s deputy chief for administration.

The regional office will have administrative supervision and operational control over the provincial offices of Negros Oriental, Negros Occidental and Siquijor and the Bacolod City police office.

“The activation of Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region marks a significant step in ensuring a more responsive and community-oriented policing system,” said PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil.

“This reorganization reflects our commitment to upholding peace and order, as well as our dedication to serving and protecting the people of Negros Island and its neighboring provinces,” added Marbil.

The PNP public information office said activation of the regional office “represents a major step forward in ensuring peace, order, and security in the Negros Island Region.”

“The activation of PRO-NIR is a testament to the administration’s dedication to bringing government services closer to the people, fostering stability, and enhancing the overall safety of communities in the region,” it added.
