President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and First Lady Louise “Liza” Araneta-Marcos joined world leaders and the Catholic faithful in paying their final respects to Pope Francis, who was laid to rest on Saturday.
The First Couple, who flew to the Vatican on Thursday night, attended the funeral mass for the Pope at St. Peter’s Square, which was also attended by other world leaders that included United States President Donald Trump.
The Presidential Communications Office (PCO), in a statement, said the First Couple conveyed the Philippines’ prayers and condolences during the event.
It added that the Philippines remembered the Pope for his compassion, concern for the poor, and his historic visit to the Philippines in 2015.
The Philippines, the largest Catholic country in Asia, has been observing a period of mourning since April 23, lasting until Saturday.
