LESS than six months into 2025, the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) has already paid P27 billion in hemodialysis claims of members with kidney ailments.
In a televised public briefing, PhilHealth Spokesman Dr. Israel Francis Pargas disclosed that they have nearly equaled the hemodialysis benefit claims for the whole of 2024, which stood at P28 billion.
“In the first semester of 2025, we have already paid hemodialysis benefits of around P27 billion for more than two million claims. That’s just for less than six months (of 2025),” said Pargas.
The increase in PhilHealth benefit claims payment comes amid the expansion of benefits for those with chronic kidney diseases by the state-run health insurer.
Last week, PhilHealth launched the new benefits package for adult and pediatric post-kidney transplant patients, who suffer from chronic kidney disease.
PhilHealth said its kidney transplant package has been raised to P2.1 million from P600,000 in 2024.
“All benefit packages that we have created can be sustained by PhilHealth. This only means that PhilHealth has enough funds to support all its benefits expansion,” said Pargas.
Nevertheless, he stressed that they will still need direct contributor members to regularly pay their premium contributions.
Similarly, he said it is also imperative for PhilHealth to get adequate government subsidies.
“We will still need them later on so that we can really sustain all our programs,” said Pargas.
