THE Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) said it has paid P91.7 billion in hospital claims from January 1 to May 3 this year.

“This is higher by over P40 billion compared to the amount paid from January 1 to May 3, 2024,” the state insurer said in a social media post.

“It also shows that every centavo paid by our members are properly used to pay for the benefits of every Filipino,” it added.

PhilHealth has faced criticisms over delays in reimbursing hospital claims in both private and public health facilities.

Last year, PhilHealth launched the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology in a bid to improve its processing of health insurance claims.

The AI-powered system is expected to process claims in real-time by applying complex business rules and validating against PhilHealth policies and guidelines.

Among its expected results are elimination of manual intervention and acceleration of approval and payment of clean claims to accredited hospitals and health facilities.
