THE Supreme Court (SC) yesterday said the Philippines will host the 11th meeting of the Council of ASEAN Chief Justices (CACJ) on November 18 to 21 this year.

According to the SC, the meeting will bring together chief justices and senior judiciary officials from ASEAN member states to discuss judicial cooperation and regional initiatives in Southeast Asia.

“Among the matters that will be discussed at the CACJ meeting are cross-border disputes involving children, facilitating service of civil processes within ASEAN, case management and court technology, conduct of videoconference hearings, and judicial training and education,” the High Court said.

This year’s meeting will be held at the Shangri-La Mactan, Cebu. Last year, the gathering was hosted by Malaysia.

The CACJ traces its origins to the inaugural ASEAN Chief Justices Meeting held on August 23, 2013.

It provides a regular forum for the Chief Justices to discuss and exchange views on common issues facing the ASEAN judiciaries.

The CACJ also serves as a platform to promote close relations and build mutual understanding among the ASEAN judiciaries.

In addition, the SC said CACJ facilitates judicial cooperation and collaboration to enhance economic growth and development of the ASEAN region.
