PDEA report: P52.5B illegal drugs seized so far under Marcos admin

SOME P52.5 billion worth of illegal drugs have so far been seized under the administration of President Marcos Jr., the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) reported yesterday.

Citing data collated from July 1, 2022 to December 31 last year, PDEA said the seized drugs included 6,764.56 kilos of shabu worth P45.9 billion.

Also seized were 80.76 kilos of cocaine; 120,553 pieces of ecstasy; and 6,247.7 kilos of marijuana.

The illegal drugs were seized in 94,050 drug operations conducted throughout the country.

PDEA said the operations also led to the arrest of 127,155 drug personalities, including 8,138 high-value targets.

It said this led to the dismantling of 1,266 drug dens and two clandestine laboratories.

PDEA also reported that 29,390 barangays have been cleared of illegal drugs under its Barangay Drug Clearing Program which was launched in February 2017.

It said 6,113 barangays are still subject to drug-clearing operations.

PDEA operatives arrested four “high-value” drug personalities in Santiago City, Isabela last Tuesday afternoon.

The suspects were identified only by their aliases as Ando, 58; John, 31; Nathan, 35; all male; and Ali, 42, a female. The four are residents of Santiago City.

They were nabbed in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Mabini at 4:50 p.m. last Tuesday, PDEA said.

Seized from them were 18.5 grams of shabu worth P124,400, five grams of dried marijuana leaves worth P600, the buy-bust money, two cell phones, a weighing scale, and assorted drug paraphernalia.

Police seized P136,000 worth of suspected dangerous drugs and arrested two persons in a buy-bust operation in Angono, Rizal before dawn last Tuesday.

Col. Felipe Maraggun, Rizal Provincial Police Office director, identified the suspects as alias Ariel, 24; and Jie, 31, residents of Cainta, Rizal.

Seized from them were five sachets containing more or less 20 grams of suspected shabu. – With Christian Oineza
