PDEA destroys P400M illegal drugs in Leyte

THE Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) yesterday incinerated in Leyte P400.7 million worth of shabu which was seized in the government’s continuing war against illegal drugs.

The 58.9 kilos of shabu were burned at a thermal facility of the Heaven’s Gateway Chapel in Barangay Campetic, Palo last Friday afternoon, PDEA said in a statement last Saturday afternoon.

Also destroyed were .11 grams of marijuana and P9,871 worth of expired medicine.

The destruction, led by PDEA Western Visayas Director Bryan Babang, was witnessed by other PDEA officials and representatives from the PNP, Department of Justice, Public Attorney’s Office, local government units, civil society groups, media and other stakeholders.

PDEA said the destruction of illegal drugs was done under Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Meanwhile, a drug den operator and two of his cohorts were arrested by PDEA and PNP operatives in San Jose Del Monte City in Bulacan on Saturday night.

PDEA named the drug den operator as alias Bronson, 50, while his cohorts were alias Ricky, 45, and alias Tolits, 50.

The suspects were nabbed in a buy-bust operation at 10:03 p.m. at the makeshift drug den in Barangay Minuyan, which was subsequently dismantled.

The operation also resulted in the seizure of 15 grams of shabu worth P102,000, the marked money used by the poseur buyer, and paraphernalia used for shabu.

Police seized P208,964 worth of suspected dangerous drugs and arrested two persons in a buy-bust operation in Binangonan, Rizal last Saturday morning.

Col. Felipe Maraggun, Rizal provincial police office (PPO) director, identified the suspects as alias Bigboy, 26; and Allan, 55, residents of the municipality.

Seized from them were eight sachets containing more or less 30.73 grams of suspected shabu. – With Christian Oineza
