THE Philippine Coast Guard provided medical assistance to an injured Chinese crew member of a Hong Kong-registered cargo vessel transiting the Philippine waters, the PCG reported yesterday.
In a statement, the PCG said the Chinese sustained a lacerated finger due to an accident while onboard the MV Voy Trust in the vicinity waters off Basilan Strait Tuesday last week.
“The National Maritime Center received the vessel’s request for medical evacuation as it transited near Zamboanga City,” the PCG said.
The Coast Guard District Southwestern Mindanao promptly deployed one of its ships, BRP Capones, “to execute the operation.”
Upon arrival at the Ben Go Wharf in Zamboanga City, PCG medical personnel “immediately attended to the injured crew member by cleaning his wound and) monitoring his vital signs.”
The injured Chinese was later brought to the Brent Hospital and Colleges Incorporated in Zamboanga City.
“The Chinese was then turned over to the vessel’s local agent, Mr. Albert Abanilla, for further assistance,” the PCG said.
