PBBM retains 6 appointees, axes 3 others

PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has retained six of his appointees in government and accepted the courtesy resignation of three others as the performance evaluation of heads of departments, bureaus and other public offices continues.

Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the President retained National Irrigation Administration (NIA) administrator Eduardo Guillen, and Philippine Health Insurance (PhilHealth) Acting President and CEO Edwin Mercado.

Castro said Marcos also retained Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) President and General Manager Jose Arnulfo Veloso, Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP) President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Lynette Ortiz, Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) President and CEO Michael de Jesus, and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office General Manager Melquiades Robles.

She said the President accepted the courtesy resignations of Presidential Legislative Liaison Office head and Presidential Adviser on Legislative Affairs Mark Llandro Mendoza, Presidential Adviser on Military and Police Affairs Roman Felix, and Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC) Renewables Corporation president and CEO John Jay Arenas.

“Ang pagtanggap po ng mga courtesy resignation at iyung mga na-retain po ito ay patunay lamang po na patuloy po na nagkakaroon ng evaluation sa bawat pagtatrabaho ng mga heads of agencies at iba pang mga leaders natin na dapat pagkatiwalaan ng Pangulo (The acceptance of courtesy resignations and those who were retained are proof that there is an ongoing evaluation of every work of the heads of agencies and other leaders whom the President should trust),” Castro said.

She said more names would be announced soon, as the evaluation of their performance is completed.

The President had asked for the courtesy resignation of appointees led by his Cabinet members as part of efforts to recalibrate his administration.

Marcos said performance assessment could be done quarterly to ensure that government targets and goals are met.
