A 63-year-old Manila-bound passenger was arrested by the PNP-Aviation Security Group (PNP-ASG) for carrying live ammunition at the Kalibo International Airport yesterday.
Personnel of the Office of Transportation Security (OTS) detected a firearm magazine with three pieces of live ammunition of .45 caliber in his black luggage during X-ray screening at the final security checkpoint of the airport.
The passenger, a Kalibo resident, is now in the custody of the Kalibo Airport Police Station and is facing charges for violation of Republic Act 10591, otherwise known as the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, in relation to the Omnibus Election Code.
Brig. Gen. Christopher Abecia, Director of the PNP AVSEGROUP, emphasized the strict enforcement of firearm and ammunition regulations, especially during the election period.
