A passenger vessel caught fire at the Port of Abra de Ilog in Occidental Mindoro yesterday morning, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported.
No one was killed or injured in the incident involving MV Roro Master 2, the PCG said in a statement.
The vessel was in the process of loading passengers and cargo for its scheduled voyage to Batangas when the fire broke out at around 9 a.m. at the deck generator area located at the fantail section of the vessel.
“At the time of the incident, the vessel was carrying a total of 34 crew members, 33 passengers, and 21 rolling cargoes,” the PCG said.
Personnel from the Coast Guard Sub-Station Abra de Ilog promptly responded after receiving information about the fire.
“The ship’s officers and crew, in coordination with the vessel’s damage control team, promptly initiated onboard firefighting measures to contain and extinguish the fire,” the PCG said.
The fire was put out at 9:20 a.m., the PCG said.
“No injuries or casualties were reported during the incident,” the PCG said.
The PCG said Coast Guard Station Occidental Mindoro has recommended to the Maritime Industry Authority-Calabarzon the temporary suspension of the vessel’s documents.
