Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto said that they considered retrofitting the Old City Hall building but decided against it.
He said that after consulting with experts, they found that retrofitting the old City Hall would possibly be less costly than building a new one so they didn’t push through with the plan.
“We’re building a new City Hall out of need or necessity. At first we considered just retrofitting the old City Hall but after talking to many architects, engineers and other experts, not one of them recommended retrofitting,” Sotto said.
Sotto also said that if they’re going to build a new City Hall, they should do it properly.
The mayor recently signed a P9 billion contract for the building of a new City Hall which will be a three-tower building on a two-hectare development. Complete construction of the new hity Hall over the old one will be take at least two to three years.
