PASIG City mayoral candidate Sarah Discaya has vowed to address the long-standing land ownership problem faced by resettled Pasigueños.
The 48-year-old Discaya promised to resolve the issue within one year if she wins the mayoral race on 12 May.
The land dispute dates back more than three decades since the time of late mayor Emiliano Caruncho, who is the grandfather of Discaya’s running mate, vice mayoral candidate Iyo Caruncho-Bernardo.
“My love for every Pasigueño is the same — especially for the poor, for those overlooked by the system, and for those silently fighting to survive each day,” Discaya said.
Aside from resolving the resettlement land dispute, Discaya has also committed to build an in-city housing for the city’s homeless families and informal settlers within two years should she win in the upcoming elections.
She has said that she already has an area where the vertical housing for the informal settlers, homeless families and single parents living in an informal settlement can be constructed.
Discaya has said that there is no shortcut to transform Pasig into a better place, saying that “no one said this path was easy. We know we have to go through and struggle with every step — no shortcuts, no urgency.” Discaya is running against incumbent mayor Vico Sotto, who is seeking his last and third term as the city’s chief local executive.
