‘Paolo’ intensifies, triggers Signal No. 2 in three northern Luzon provinces

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has placed three areas under wind Signal No. 2 due to the tropical storm “Paolo.”

In its 11 a.m. bulletin, PAGASA said the southern portion of Isabela, northern portion of Quirino and northern portion of Aurora are under Signal No. 2.

Dozens of other areas are under Signal No. 1 — Cagayan, rest of Isabela, rest of Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Benguet, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, northern portion of Zambales, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, rest of Aurora, northern portion of Bulacan, northern portion of Pampanga, northern portion of Quezon (including Polillo Islands), northern portion of Camarines Norte, northern portion of Camarines Sur, and the northern portion of Catanduanes.

PAGASA said Paolo is forecast to intensify into a severe tropical storm on Thursday night.

It is forecast to make landfall on Friday morning in southern Isabela or northern Aurora and exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Saturday morning.

As of 10 a.m. Thursday, Paolo was some 575 km east of Infanta, Quezon, packing maximum sustained winds of 75 kph and gustiness of up to 90 kph.

It is moving west northwestward at 20 kph.
