PRESIDENT Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. yesterday paid tribute to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and recognized their contributions to the economy as well as their sacrifices for the country and their loved ones.
Malacanang organized the “Konsyerto sa Palasyo: Para sa Ating Mga OFWs” to honor their sacrifices and hard work, as well as treat them and their families to a night of music and fun at the Mabini grounds.
Various booths were also set up in the Kalayaan garden offering food and other treats.
“The event also aims to recognize the contributions of OFWs around the world as they make their mark in various industries such as hospitality, healthcare, engineering, teaching, construction, household care, entertainment, and many more,” a statement released by the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said.
The President and First Lady Louise “Liza” Araneta-Marcos, however, were unable to attend the event, like in previous concerts held in the Palace — as they have yet to arrive in the country after attending the funeral of Pope Francis at the Vatican on Saturday.
The PCO said officials of different agencies that have significant relations with our OFWs, such as the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), the Department of Tourism (DOT), and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), were present at the event.
Marcos, in a video message, said the concert was a symbol of his administration’s heartfelt gratitude for their (the OFWs) sacrifices and dedication to uplift the lives of their families and their contributions to their community and the country.
“You are one of the reasons for the country’s progress. You continue to showcase to the world the innate talent, resilience, and hard work of the Filipino people,” he said.
Marcos reiterated that in every country that he visited, foreigners would often tell him about how talented and capable the Filipinos are, which makes him proud.
“That makes me truly proud to be a Filipino because of how well you have represented us beyond our shores. You’re serving with passionate hearts and genuine smiles. Indeed, Filipinos really do give the world our best,” Marcos said.
“You are proof that Filipinos can compete with other races in any corner of the world, because of your discipline, courage, and concern for the nation,” he added.
The President also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to continue to protect and promote their welfare and that of their families.
The Malacanang concert series was top billed by The Company, the Konsyerto sa Palasyo (KSP) Band and Primedance Manila.
It also featured Rap Cañedo from Davao de Oro, Marielle Montellano from Cebu, Chito Ricafrente from Quezon, Winchester Lopez from La Union, and Reuben Laurente from Mandaluyong.
