PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will attend the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Summit in Malaysia from May 26 to 27, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said yesterday.

Castro made the statement after the President’s phone conversation with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Friday about regional economy and security and the coming Asean Summit.

Marcos, in a social media post last Friday, said he and Anwar are expected to continue their discussions with the other regional leaders at the summit in Kuala Lumpur.

Anwar, in a separate Facebook post, said he and Marcos talked about matters and developments related to Asean, global issues, the United States tariff, and “Malaysia’s desire and call for the ceasefire in Myanmar to be extended, to ensure that humanitarian aid can continue to reach the affected population.”

Marcos conducted a state visit to Malaysia in July 2023.

The Malaysia trip this month will be Marcos’ second foreign travel this year. The first was to the Vatican City late last month, for the funeral of Pope Francis.
