PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has named Army Intelligence regiment head Brigadier General Peter Burgonio as the acting commander of the Presidential Security Command (PSC), replacing Major General Jesus Nelson Morales.

Morales has reportedly been appointed as head of the Air Force’s Air Education, Training and Doctrine Command.

Morales had served as head of the PSC since 2023.

Burgonio, prior to heading the PSC, was the commander of the Philippine Army’s Army Intelligence Regiment. He also served as the unit’s deputy commander.

He had held various positions in the Army, including battalion commander of the 14th Infantry Battalion, assistant chief of staff for intelligence of the 8th Infantry Division, and chief of the counter-intelligence branch of the Army’s Office of the Assistant Chief of Staff for Intelligence.

He also previously served as chief of the anti-terrorism branch of the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

Burgonio is a member of the Philippine Military Academy’s Class of 1993.

The PSC, formerly known as the Presidential Security Group, is mandated to provide protection escort for the President, Vice President and their immediate families, as well as honor guards for visiting dignitaries.
