Palace bares 2026 holidays

PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has identified and declared the different regular and special working and non-working holidays in 2026, including at least nine long weekends.

The President, on September 3, signed Proclamation No. 1006 which also declared the EDSA People Power Day, which is commemorated every February 25, as a special working day.

“On 25 February 2026, the country will commemorate the 40th Republic Anniversary of EDSA People Power which ushered political, social, economic reforms in the country, thus may be declared as a special (working) day,” the proclamation read.

The EDSA revolution led to the ouster of the late president Ferdinand E. Marcos, father and namesake of incumbent President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.

Malacañang said the release of the proclamation order, which has been published in a national daily, aims to inform the public of the upcoming events.

The issuance identified the regular non-working holidays, which include January 1 (Thursday) or New Year’s Day; April 2, Maundy Thursday; April 3, Good Friday; April 9 (Thursday), Araw ng Kagitingan; May 1 (Friday), Labor Day; June 12 (Friday), Independence Day; August 31 (Monday), National Heroes’ Day; November 30 (Monday); Bonifacio Day; December 25, Christmas Day; and December 30, Rizal Day.

The special non-working days are the Ninoy Aquino Day on August 21 (Friday); All Saints’ Day on November 1; Feast of the Immaculate Concepcion on December 8 (Tuesday); and the last day of the year on December 31 (Thursday).

Additional special non-working days include the Chinese New Year on February 17 (Tuesday); Black Saturday on April 4; All Souls’ Day on November 2 (Monday); and Christmas eve on December 24 (Thursday).

The observance of the additional special non-working days would help provide families more time to spend together and strengthen their ties as well as promote domestic tourism.

The order also stated that the observance of the national holidays Eidul Fitr and Eidul Adha “shall hereafter be issued after the approximate dates of the Islamic holidays have been determined in accordance with the Islamic calendar (Hijra) or the lunar calendar, or upon Islamic astronomical calculations, whichever is possible or convenient.”

The National Commission on Muslim Filipinos shall recommend to the Office of the President the actual dates on which these holidays shall respectively fall.

The declaration of the 2026 holidays provides Filipinos nine long weekends, which include the Holy Week in April or Maundy Thursday to Black Saturday, which is followed by Easter Sunday; Labor Day on May 1, which falls on a Friday; Independence Day on June 12, which falls on a Monday; National Heroes’ Day which falls on the last Monday of August; Bonifacio Day in November which falls on a Monday; the Ninoy Aquino Day which falls on a Friday; All Souls’ Day in November which falls on a Monday; and the last day of the year, which falls on a Thursday and is followed by January 1 (Friday) which is a regular holiday.
