PHILIPPINE Drug Enforcement Agency and PNP operatives destroyed P7.68 million worth of marijuana plants and seedlings in two separate operations in Ilocos Sur and Benguet.
One of the operations was conducted last Sunday in Barangay Licungan in Sugpon, Ilocos Sur, where authorities uprooted 18,050 fully-grown marijuana plants worth P3.61 million.
Also found during the raid were 3,950 marijuana seedlings worth P158,000.
The following day, PDEA and PNP operatives uprooted 17,410 fully-grown marijuana plants worth P3.48 million in the boundaries of the same barangay and Barangay Tacadang in Kibungan, Benguet.
Also seized were 10,950 marijuana seedlings valued at P438,000, PDEA said.
The uprooted plants and seized seedlings were subsequently burned.
No cultivators were arrested during the two operations but PDEA vowed to press charges against those involved.
The PDEA-Ilocos region reiterated its commitment to end the proliferation of marijuana in the region.
Police seized P149,600 worth of suspected dangerous drugs and arrested two persons in a buy-bust operation in Taytay, Rizal, last Monday night.
Police identified the suspects as alias Joey and Orly, both of legal age and residents of Taytay, Rizal.
Seized from them were three sachets containing more or less 22 grams of suspected shabu. – With Christian Oineza
