P69M in aid sent to shear line-affected communities; P22M to Kanlaon volcano refugees

THE government and its private partners have provided more than P68.65 million worth of food, non-food, and cash assistance to the communities affected by the flooding and thunderstorms brought on by the shear line in the Mimaropa, Bicol and Eastern Visayas regions.

The DSWD also continues to assist communities affected by the continuing unrest of the Kanlaon volcano.

More than P21.966 million worth of aid — P110.666 million from DSWD, P30.39 million from local government units (LGUs), P33.45 million from non-government organizations, and P38.4 million from private partners — have been provided to the communities affected by Kanlaon.

Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Assistant Secretary and spokesperson Irene Dumlao yesterday said the shear line affected 194,444 families or 792,034 persons from 1,148 barangays in the three regions.

This includes the 42 families or 226 persons who are now taking temporary shelter in two evacuation centers in Mimaropa and 17,805 families or 64,261 persons temporarily staying with their relatives or friends.

A total of P68. 652 million worth of assistance was provided to the affected families. This includes P63.578 million worth of aid from the DSWD, P4.16 million from the local government units (LGUs), and P908,900 from other partners.

A total of 315 houses were damaged in the three regions.

“We continue to extend aid, not only in the form of family food packs and non-food items but also through financial assistance.  We also provide the needs of the internally displaced persons who are located or are taking temporary shelter in the evacuation centers,” Dumlao said in an interview with Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon.

Dumlao said the Kanlaon volcano unrest has affected 12,630 families or 48,528 persons from 27 barangays in Regions VI (western Visayas) and VII (Central Visayas) are affected including 2,628 families or 8,403 persons who are currently taking temporary shelter in 22 evacuation centers and 3,572 families or 11,579 persons who are temporarily staying with their relatives or friends.
