THE Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) paid about P6.79 billion in benefit claims last year for its members afflicted with COVID-19.
This covers 517,977 COVID-19 patients from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2024.
The biggest share of payments went to in-patient claims – almost P5.7 billion for 29,566 COVID-19 patients.
PhilHealth also paid about P988 million for COVID-19 testing of 482,909 members, and some P118 million for the isolation of 5,502 patients. The nationwide state of public health emergency due to COVID-19 was lifted by President Marcos Jr. in July 2023 but PhilHealth said COVID-19 benefits packages will still be available in accredited health facilities.
