THE Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) – IX has approved a P33 wage increase for private sector workers in the Zamboanga Peninsula.

In a statement, the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) announced that the Zamboanga Peninsula wage board has approved the increase of the daily minimum wage for private sector workers effective December 12.

“It will increase the daily minimum wage in the region from P381 to P414 in the non-agriculture sector, including service and retail establishments employing 10 or more workers; and from P368 to P401 in the agriculture sector, including service and retail establishments employing 1 to 9 workers,” said the NWPC.

The wage order is expected to directly benefit 95,990 minimum wage earners in the Zamboanga Peninsula.

In addition, the NWPC said that about 129,607 full-time wage and salary workers earning above the minimum wage may also indirectly benefit as a result of upward adjustments at the enterprise level stemming from the correction of wage distortion.

It said all retail/service establishments regularly employing not more than 10 workers and enterprises affected by natural calamities and/or human-induced disasters may apply to the RTWPB-IX for exemption from the wage increase.

On the other hand, all registered Barangay Micro Business Enterprises (BMBEs) are not covered by the minimum wage law, said the NWPC.

The last wage order issued by the Zamboanga Peninsula wage board took effect back in November 2023.

Wage Order No. RBIX-22 set the minimum wage rate in Zamboanga Peninsula from P368 to P381.
