A P2 million reward has been offered for any information that could lead to the arrest of a Chinese who shot dead a fellow Chinese in a hotpot restaurant in Makati last week, the Southern Police District said yesterday.
“Reward of P2,000,000 is being offered to anyone with information which leads to the arrest of Wang Danyu aka Wang Dan Yu, who is wanted in connection with the death of Chinese national Liu, Jiabin,” Southern Police District Director Brig. Gen. Bernard Yang said in a statement.
Yang said Wang, who also goes by the alias Bao Long, shot the victim last October 17 as shown by footage taken by a closed-circuit television camera.
He fled the scene with another unidentified Chinese.
Yang also reminded the public that the suspect is armed and they should inform the nearest police station if they have any information on his whereabouts.
“Take no action to apprehend this individual yourself as he is considered armed and dangerous. If you have any information about this person, please notify the nearest police station or contact the Makati City Police Station at 09297936525,” the SPD chief said, adding all information will be kept strictly confidential.
The Makati police earlier surmised the shooting incident could be related to the operation of a Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations (POGO) hub but did not provide details.
Last Sunday, the Chinese Embassy in Manila requested authorities for a swift resolution of the shooting incident, adding it is assisting the PNP in the investigation.
“The Embassy encourages the Philippine authorities to intensify efforts to swiftly apprehend the perpetrator and ensure the safety of Chinese citizens and their property in the Philippines,” the embassy said.
The embassy also reiterated that Chinese law prohibits any form of gambling and that the Chinese government welcomed the Philippines’ decision to ban POGO operations and crack down on those still operating and their criminal activities.
Since last July, 140 Chinese associated with POGOs have been repatriated to China.
