SOME P12.9 million worth of ecstacy tablets and kush (high-grade) marijuana were intercepted by the Bureau of Customs (BOC) at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) last December 5.

The illegal drugs, contained in parcels stored at the Central Mail Exchange Center (CMEC) and consigned to different individuals in the country, were discovered during a routine inspection. They contained 7,791 grams of kush and 1,229 pieces of ecstacy tablets.

The seized drugs were turned over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) for violations of RA 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002) and RA 10863 (Customs Modernization and Tariff Act).

“This successful operation underscores the Bureau’s efforts in fortifying border security and curbing the smuggling of illegal drugs,” said Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio.

District Collector Atty. Yasmin O. Mapa affirmed the commitment of the BOC-NAIA to remain steadfast in its mission to intercept contraband and uphold the safety and well-being of the nation. – Osias Osorio
