THE Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) yesterday warned the public, especially overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), against fixers who are using the agency’s programs and services to earn money.
In a social media post, the OWWA disclosed that it has been receiving reports of the prevalence of fixers, including those doing it online, and targeting OFWs.
“We have been receiving several complaints about fixers and individuals, including some online accounts, who are encouraging and abusing OWWA programs for our OFWs,” said OWWA.
The agency stressed that all OWWA services are offered and can be availed for free.
These include the repatriation services as well as the Balik Pinas, Balik Hanapbuhay Program of OWWA.
“Any fixer or person who charges in exchange for assisting in OWWA transactions is violating the law,” said OWWA.
It said such acts are considered illegal as they violate the Anti-Fixer Law, commit estafa, as well as cybercrime if done via the internet, chat groups, or social media.
“If you are aware of such incidents, please report them immediately. You can also submit evidence, such as receipts, messages, or screenshots, for immediate action,” said OWWA.
Reports may be sent via email (kalingadesk@owwa.gov.ph), OWWA Hotline (1348), and mobile phone (+63 0956 317 7813).
