OVERSEAS Filipino workers (OFWs) will now have to present electronic certificates (e-certificates) from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) at the airports before they depart.
The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) announced that the OWWA will start implementing the issuance of e-certificates for those who have attended and completed the Pre-Departure Orientation Seminar (PDOS) and the Comprehensive Pre-Departure Education Program (CPDEP).
“The public is hereby informed that effective 01 October 2024, the OWWA will implement the issuance of electronic certificates (e-certificate) to land-based and sea-based workers,” the DMW Advisory No. 34-2024 said.
“The verification of the authenticity of the e-certificates can be done through the QR Code reader,” it added.
The DMW said e-certificates will be issued by the 12 OWWA Regional Welfare Offices, including the National Capital Region.
The PDOS is a mandatory orientation seminar aimed to provide departing OFWs with basic information beneficial to them, such as work standards, the general profile of the country of destination, stages of the OFW’s life abroad, health and safety, travel tips, airport procedure, and government programs and services.
On the other hand, the CPDEP is an orientation seminar for departing household service workers aimed to address the difficulties confronting them related to the language barrier, as well as the culture of their destination countries.
Upon completion of the PDOS/CPDEP, participants are awarded a Certificate of Completion, which OFWs must present at the airport before departure.
