IMMIGRATION Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said an overstaying Chinese has been arrested in Pangasinan.
Jiang Fangyuan, 47, was apprehended by Bureau of Immigration intelligence operatives in Anda, Pangasinan.
Viado said Jiang was found without a passport or valid immigration documents. He did not say when the arrest was made.
Jiang was taken into custody for overstaying in violation of Section 37(a)(7) of the Philippine Immigration Act of 1940.
“This operation is also part of the administration’s broader efforts to enhance national security and reinforce immigration enforcement, ensuring that only legally admitted foreigners remain within Philippine territory,” Viado said.
“This successful operation reflects the dedication of our intelligence operatives in safeguarding our borders and preventing overstaying foreign nationals from staying illegally,” he added.
Jiang will remain in the BI’s detention facility inside Camp Bagong Diwa while undergoing deportation proceedings. Last year, the BI arrested and deported 62 Chinese charged with various offenses in China and for immigration violations in the country.
