THE Office of Transportation Security (OTS) wants the system being implemented at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport departure area to be changed in keeping with international standards.

Currently, all passengers leaving the country need to go through the Bureau of Immigration first before the final security check.

OTS spokesperson Kim Marquez said their proposal is intended to address the complaints they receive from passengers who are not allowed to exit the departure area after prohibited items are found in their luggage.

A preliminary meeting has been held to address this concern.

Airport authorities said it cannot be done immediately because of electrical problems that still need to be fixed, aside from the current rush of passengers.

In other countries, departing passengers are made to go through a security X-ray first before they are processed by immigration. – Osias Osorio
