PRESIDENT Marcos Jr. has named People’s Television Network, Inc. (PTNI) chairman and former executive secretary Oscar Orbos as the officer-in-charge general manager (OIC GM) of the state media network.
Communications Secretary Jay Ruiz said Orbos agreed to be OIC GM on Saturday on the condition that it would just be temporary as he prefers to stay on as chairman of the board.
Ruiz said Palace lawyers are now looking into the legality of Orbos holding both positions as OIC GM and chairman of PTV. Orbos , who was named as PTNI chairman of the board in October 2024, served as executive secretary and secretary of Transportation and Communications under the administration of the late President Corazon Aquino’ from 1990 to 1991.
He also held elected positions such as representative of the first district of Pangasinan from 1987 to 1990, and provincial governor from 1995 to 1998.
He was also a former host of the program “Debate with Mare at Pare,” alongside economics professor Solita Monsod.
