‘Opong’ makes fifth landfall in Mindoro; 8 areas under Signal No. 3

“OPONG” made another landfall before noon Friday, this time in Oriental Mindoro, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, Astronomical Service Administration (PAGASA) said.

In a bulletin issued at 2 p.m., PAGASA said Opong made its fifth landfall in Mansalay town at around 11:30 a.m.

Ompong earlier made four landfalls — one in Eastern Samar, one in Masbate, and two in Romblon.

“Opong has made another landfall over Mansalay, Oriental Mindoro at 11:30 a.m today. It will emerge over the Mindoro Strait this afternoon and head towards the West Philippine Sea,” the weather bureau said.

“On the track forecast, Opong will exit our Philippine Area
of Responsibility tomorrow afternoon,” it added. 

As of 1 p.m., Opong was in the vicinity of San Jose, Occidental Mindoro. 

Packing maximum sustained winds of 110 kph and gustiness of up to 150 kph, Opong is moving westward at 20 kph.

Eight areas are still under wind Signal No. 3 — Batangas, Marinduque, Romblon, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Calamian Islands, and the northwestern portion of Aklan and Caluya Islands.

Dozens of other areas are under Signal No. 2 and 1.
