“OPONG” made two landfalls in Romblon on Friday morning, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.
PAGASA said Opong made landfall in San Fernando, Romblon at 8:10 a.m., and in Alcantara, Romblon at 9:20 a.m.
Opong has so far made four landfalls. The two others are in Eastern Samar on Thursday night and in Masbate earlier on Friday.
“After making landfall over San Fernando, Romblon and Alcantara, Romblon at 8:10 a.m. and 9:20 a.m. today, respectively, Opong will continue moving west northwestward and may make landfall over the southern portion of Oriental Mindoro by noon or early afternoon today,” the weather bureau said in a bulletin issued at 11 a.m.
As of 10 a.m., Opong was in the coastal waters of Ferrol, Romblon. It is packing maximum sustained winds of 110 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 150 kph. It is moving westward at 35 kph.
Wind Signal No. 3 is up in Batangas, Marinduque, Romblon, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, and the northern portion of Aklan, and Caluya Island.
Dozens of other areas are under Signal No. 2 and 1, including Metro Manila which is under Signal No. 2.
