Tropical cyclone “Opong” intensified into a storm on Wednesday, prompting the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) to raise Wind Signal No. 1 over three areas.
The signal was raised in the provinces of Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, and Samar.
PAGASA said “Opong” is expected to bring only “minimal to minor” wind impacts to areas under Signal No. 1.
“Opong” intensified at 2 a.m. Wednesday, according to PAGASA.
As of 4 a.m., it was spotted approximately 815 kilometers east of northeastern Mindanao.
“On the forecast track, Opong may make landfall over Bicol Region by Friday afternoon and cross Southern Luzon from Friday afternoon until Saturday morning,” PAGASA said.
PAGASA forecasts “Opong” to strengthen into a typhoon before making landfall in the Bicol region.
