The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) yesterday warned overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) against unscrupulous individuals offering to process their Overseas Employment Certificates (OECs).
In a social media post, the DMW said the public must stay vigilant against any individual or group offering to help them process their OECs, which serves as exit clearance for OFWs.
“Do not transact with unauthorized individuals offering services for the processing of fake OECs,” said DMW.
“Be wise and don’t be scammed by those offering the speedy processing of the documents so that they can immediately work abroad,” it added.
The Department stressed that OECs cannot be processed by any other entity.
“Make sure that your OECs will be processed by the DMW,” it stressed.
Instead of patronizing these unauthorized individuals, the DMW said: “Immediately report these incidents via email (airtipinfo@dmw.gov.ph) or Facebook page (www.facebook.com/dmwairtip).”
The advisory was issued after an OFW bound for Hong Kong was caught by the Bureau of Immigration presenting a fake OEC last December 30.
An OEC is a document required of all departing OFWs as it serves as their exit clearance and exemption from payment of travel tax and airport terminal fee.
