The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) on Sunday warned departing overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) against the emergence of the “airport escort” scam.

In a social media post, the DMW said OFWs should be vigilant about unscrupulous individuals targeting departing individuals by duping them to avail themselves of assistance services in exchange for a fee.

“We are warning the public against the bogus airport escort services that aim to scam those looking to find jobs abroad,” said the DMW.

“Be careful about those offering such services that promise to help you speed up the immigration process in exchange for a large amount,” it added.

“Do not fall for offers of quickly processing your documents in order to find jobs abroad as you risk becoming a victim of illegal recruitment, and human trafficking,” said the DMW.

Instead of relying on bogus “airport escort” services, it said OFWs should verify first with the DMW.

“We advise them to go through the right process with the DMW to avoid falling victim to scammers,” said the DMW.

Earlier, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) intercepted a scam victim, who was duped into paying P120,000 for fake assistance to illegally work abroad. It was subsequently learned that the victim fell for bogus immigration escort services on social media and handed her travel documents and payment to a man but the supposed escort never arrived at the airport.
