FROM phone calls and emails, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) are going digital in getting updates on the welfare of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

In a statement, the DMW announced the launch of “Kumusta Kabayan App,” a digital welfare monitoring system aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of OFWs anywhere in the world.

“We want every OFW to feel their importance as the Bagong Bayani of our country because we will be the ones to call them directly to say hello, and ensure immediate assistance to their needs,” said Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac.

“The ‘Kumusta Kabayan App’ is connected to the DMW-OWWA electronic system and database of OFW registration and membership, case management, and welfare reporting,” he added.

Some of the app’s features include the “Kumusta Kabayan” Survey, where OFWs can answer questions about their situation with their employer, the quality of their working and living conditions, and whether their wages are correct and given on time.
