ONE of the 17 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) previously detained and released by Qatari authorities has lost her job as a domestic worker.
In a statement yesterday, the Department of Migrant Workers said the 36-year-old domestic worker was terminated by her employer.
“The OFW was the only one whose employment was affected after her employer decided to terminate her services,” said the DMW.
“She is one of the 17 OFWs who were detained by the Qatari police and were subsequently released,” it said, adding she has been employed in Qatar since 2019.
The OFW was previously deployed as a domestic worker in Kuwait from 2016 to 2019.
The DMW said the OFW had applied for voluntary repatriation.
She arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 last Sunday and was welcomed by her family, including her two children aged 12 and 16 years old.
“Coming back to the Philippines, she expressed desire in enhancing her skills through training and livelihood programs from the government,” said the DMW.
“We shall provide training, reemployment, and livelihood assistance as she is interested in the field of culinary arts, and accounting as well,” it added.
Last month, 17 OFWs participated in an unauthorized political demonstration and were arrested by Qatari authorities.
Subsequently, the Qatari government dismissed charges of illegal assembly against the 17.
