In the wake of the killing of another Pinay domestic worker, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) is set to review the status of overseas Filipino worker (OFW) deployment in Kuwait.

In a radio interview, Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac said, “We are reviewing the deployment status of our OFWs in Kuwait, especially the domestic workers. We are also looking at the protection of those that have been there in Kuwait for quite some time now.”

He noted that the DMW has an existing bilateral labor agreement with Kuwait for the protection of OFWs that are set to be deployed there.

“We are reaching out with our counterparts in Kuwait for the establishment of full protection of all OFWs there,” said Cacdac.

Last October 16, OFW Dafnie Nacalaban was reported missing by her employer. In late December, Nacalaban was reportedly found in a decomposed state in a Kuwaiti national’s backyard.

According to Cacdac, they are set to bring home the remains of Nacalaban as soon as possible adding that they are just waiting for Kuwaiti authorities to release her remains.

“In situations such as these, the remains of the victim is part of the investigation. We are hoping that after the examination of her body, we can already bring her home,” said the DMW head.

“In our communication with Kuwaiti authorities, we don’t see any problem in the immediate repatriation of her remains as soon as she is ready and released,” added Cacdac.
