MORE overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) were deployed in the first nine months of 2024 as compared to the whole of 2023, data from the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) showed.

From January to September 2024, the DMW said 2,662,720 OFWs were deployed in different countries.

The number is higher compared to the whole of 2023, which saw 2,613,903 OFWs being deployed.

On a year-on-year comparison (January to September), the 2024 numbers were also higher as there were only 1,959,446 OFWs deployed last year.

Among land-based OFWs, there were 2,162,135 deployed from January to September 2024.

This is higher compared to the whole deployment of land-based OFWs in 2023 at 1,992,419.

Comparing the numbers during the same period in September 2023, there were 1,486,127 land-based OFWs deployed.

As for sea-based OFWs, there were 500,585 deployed from January to September 2024, lower than the 621,484 sea-based OFWs deployed in 2023.

However, the 2024 data is higher when compared year-on-year (January to September) in 2023, which saw 473,319 sea-based OFWs deployed.

In late 2023, DMW Undersecretary Patricia Caunan said they expect the momentum gained in 2023 for OFW deployment to spill over to 2024.

“We might reach an all-time when it comes to deployment this year (2023). We expect the same and more than that next year,” Caunan said then.
