OFFICE of Civil Defense Administrator Ariel Nepomuceno yesterday ordered OCD officials and staff to be mindful of the hardships of Filipinos affected by recent tropical cyclones when holding Christmas parties and year-end assessments.
Nepomuceno’s order for “mindful and simple conduct” during this year’s festivities is in line with the recent directive of Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin to scale down Christmas parties.
Last November 19, Malacanang urged government agencies to scale down Christmas parties to save funds for victims of the tropical cyclones that battered many areas.
“In line with the call of our President, we encourage all government agencies to avoid lavish celebrations this Christmas,” Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin said.
In a memorandum, Nepomuceno instructed OCD offices and services to be respectful and considerate of the difficulties faced by many Filipinos due to weather disturbances.
“This decision reflects our Office’s sensitivity to the hardships faced by many Filipinos due to the recent calamities and aligns with our commitment and compassion during these challenging times,” Nepomuceno said in a statement.
The OCD said concerned offices and services “are required to follow these guidelines to ensure that celebrations remain respectful and considerate of the circumstances faced by many Filipinos.”
“The OCD expresses gratitude for the cooperation and understanding of its officials and staff in this important matter,” the OCD added.
The OCD is the implementing arm of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council chaired by Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr.
