Office of Civil Defense deputy administrator Bernardo Rafaelito Alejandro IV on Wednesday said at least 60 people died in the magnitude 6.9 quake that hit Cebu on Tuesday night.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) earlier reported 26 deaths from the quake. The OCD is the implementing arm of the NDRRMC.

“We are receiving additional numbers on reported casualties, [the situation] is very fluid,” Alejandro told a press briefing.

“As high as 60 individuals were reported to have perished in this earthquake,” he also said.

Alejandro said they expect to have a clearer picture on the number of deaths later on Wednesday.

He said 119 individuals were reported injured.
