THE National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) yesterday said the number of individuals affected by the combined effects of tropical cyclones “Crising,” “Dante,” and “Emong” and the southwest monsoon has increased to 7,457,942 or at least 2 million families.
They are from 17 out of the country’s 18 regions, with most from Central Luzon (807,620 families or 2,767,910 persons) and Ilocos (467,113 families or 1,685,550 persons).
Of the total population affected, 235,797 families (896,112 persons) have been displaced, but the number was down to 56,299 families (204,055 persons) as of yesterday, the NDRRMC said.
Of the still-displaced, 32,332 families (113,438 persons) are housed at 1,145 evacuation centers and 23,967 families (90,617 persons) are staying with their relatives or friends.
The NDRRMC said 474 areas were still flooded as of yesterday — 253 in Central Luzon, 201 in Ilocos and 20 in Calabarzon.
The NDRRMC also said some P709 million worth of assistance has been provided to 948,911 families.
A total of 227 cities and municipalities in seven regions remained under a state of calamity as of yesterday. Seventy-three of these are in Calabarzon.
The death toll from the calamity remained at 34 — nine in the National Capital Region, eight in Calabarzon, six in Western Visayas, three each in Negros Island Region and Northern Mindanao, two in Central Luzon, and one each in Mimaropa, Davao, and Caraga.
The cost of damage to infrastructure in Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, CAR, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, NIR and Northern Luzon rose to P9.49 billion, the NDRRMC said.
Damage to agriculture also increased, now at P1.96 billion. These are in 11 regions — Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, CAR, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, NIR, Zamboanga Peninsula, and Soccsksargen.
