AUTHORITIES arrested in Bongao town in Tawi-Tawi last Saturday a Chinese behind the murder of a fellow Chinese in Makati City in October last year.
PNP chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III announced the arrest of the suspect, Wang Dan Yu, also known as Bao Long, during a press briefing at Camp Crame in Quezon City yesterday.
Torre said Yu was apprehended by police operatives, in collaboration with the National Security Council, based on a warrant issued by a Makati City court for murder.
Yu shot dead fellow Chinese Liu Jiabin at a restaurant in Makati City in October last year. The incident was caught on CCTV.
Torre said Yu had just returned to the country, using the southern backdoor, when he was arrested. He did not say where the suspect came from and when he left the Philippines.
Yu was charged with the kidnapping of a Chinese acupuncturist in Manila in August 2022. The victim was released the following month after his family paid the ransom.
Due to a lack of evidence and the non-cooperation of the victim and his family, the kidnapping case against Yu was dismissed.
Yu was also implicated in the kidnapping of a 14-year-old Chinese student in Taguig City last February. The boy was found abandoned in Paranaque City a few days later.
Torre said police intelligence personnel received information about the return of Yu to the country, through the southern backdoor, prompting the conduct of the special operation, dubbed Long Extra.
“He was arrested on board a speed boat from another country…The PNP has ways to monitor people and control the situation. We were able to monitor his plan to return to the country,” said Torre.
