THE Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program or number coding scheme will be suspended on Friday, June 6, as the country observes Eid’l Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said yesterday.
Under the number coding scheme, vehicles with license plates ending in 1 and 2 are prohibited from plying major roads on Mondays; 3 and 4 on Tuesdays; 5 and 6 on Wednesdays; 7 and 8 on Thursdays; and 9 and 0 on Fridays.
Exempted from the UVVRP are public utility vehicles, including tricycles, transport network vehicle services, motorcycles, garbage trucks, fuel trucks, marked government vehicles, fire trucks, ambulances, marked media vehicles, and motor vehicles carrying essential and or perishable goods.
Eid al-Adha is one of the two major holidays in the Islamic tradition that remembers the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son, Ismail, on Allah’s command.
Malacanang has declared June 6 a regular holiday.
The National Commission on Muslim Filipinos also recommended the declaration of June 6, 2025 as a national holiday in observance of Eid’ Adha.
The MMDA reminded motorists and the public who will trek to the provinces due to the long weekend to plan their travel and adhere to traffic rules.
“Saan man ang destinasyon, laging tandaan planuhin ang biyahe, sumunod sa batas trapiko, at mag ingat sa pagmamaneho (Wherever your destination, plan your travel, follow traffic laws, and drive carefully),” the agency said.
