New Senate committee heads named

SENATORS belong to the majority bloc yesterday filled up more vacant committee chairmanships following last Monday’s Senate leadership change.

Majority leader Juan Miguel Zubiri announced that Sen. Francis Pangilinan is the new chairman of the Committee on Justice and Human Rights.

Pangilinan will likewise replace Sen. Alan Cayetano as the Senate representative in the Judicial Bar Council.

Sen. Camille Villar will take over the helm of the Committee on Economic Affairs; and Sen. Manuel ”Lito” Lapid will chair the Committee on Cooperatives.

Senators also named new members to the Commission on Appointments (CA).

The majority bloc will be represented by Senators Risa Hontiveros, Loren Legarda, Raffy Tulfo, Joseph Victor Ejercito, Mark Villar, Panfilo Lacson, and Lapid.

The minority members will be represented by Senators Joel Villanueva, Christopher Go, Rodante Marcoleta, Imee Marcos, and Jinggoy Estrada.

Fifteen senators ousted Sen. Francis Escudero as Senate president last Monday and elected Sen. Vicente Sotto III as the new Senate leader.

On Tuesday, Estrada announced that nine senators will join the minority bloc, which will be led by Cayetano who will be the minority leader.
