ALMOST P200 billion in hospital claims have been successfully settled by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) in the first eight months of the year.
Data provided by PhilHealth showed that a total of P195.21 billion has been settled for benefit claims of hospitals from January to August 2025.
“This is 84.35 percent higher than last year during the same period, which was at P105.89 billion,” said PhilHealth.
For 2025, private facilities received a total of P114.63 billion, while government facilities received P80.58 billion.
In 2024, during the same period, private hospitals got P58.94 billion, while government facilities received P46.95 billion.
In a recent interview, PhilHealth President and Chief Executive Officer Edwin Mercado said the higher amount of payment was due to the bigger packages offered by the state-run health insurer.
“The 50 percent across-the-board increase that was implemented this January means an automatic 50 percent increase from last year,” Mercado explained.
“Add to these the new benefit packages that were introduced. Those are the ones that were added in the payments,” he added.
