NDRRMC: Affected persons, fatalities from cyclones up

THE National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) yesterday reported further increases in the number of affected population and fatalities from tropical cyclones “Crising,” “Emong,” and “Dante,” which all have left the country, and from the southwest monsoon.

In a situational report, the NDRRMC said 1,751,776 families (about 6.3 million persons) from 17 of the country’s 18 regions have been affected as of yesterday morning.

Of the number, the NDRRMC said 214,938 families (819,291 persons) have been displaced. The number, however, was down to 57,969 families (203,482 persons).

Of the still-displaced, 36,660 families (122,716 persons) are housed in 1,419 evacuation centers. The others — 21,309 families (80,766 persons) — are staying with relatives or friends.

The NDRRMC said government has provided P514.58 million in assistance to at least 620,700 families.

The NDRRMC reported an additional fatality from the calamity, bringing the death toll to 31.

Nine of the fatalities were recorded in the National Capital Region (NCR, six in Western Visayas, five in the Calabarzon, three each in Negros Island Region (NIR) and Northern Mindanao, two in Central Luzon, and one each in Mimaropa, Davao and Caraga regions.

Seven persons remained missing — three in Western Visayas, two in NCR, and one each in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) and Calabarzon.

The NDRRMC said 705 areas in six regions were still flooded as of yesterday. This is more than half of the 1,408 areas that were monitored to have been flooded in the past weeks.

The still-flooded areas are in Central Luzon (472), Ilocos (175), Calabarzon, (39), Western Visayas (11), Mimaropa (six) and Bicol (two).

The NDRRMC said 192 cities and municipalities are under state of calamity — 72 in Calabarzon, 46 in Central Luzon, 32 in NIR, 18 in Mimaropa, 11 in Ilocos, eight in NCR, four in Western Visayas, and one in Central Visayas.

The total is up from 155 cities and municipalities reported by the NDRRMC on Sunday
