NDRRMC: 100K persons affected by `Bising,’ monsoon

THE number of individuals affected by the combined effects of weather disturbance “Bising” and the southwest monsoon has reached nearly 100,000 as of yesterday morning, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said.

It placed the affected population at 31,106 families or 97,274 individuals.

In a situational report, the NDRRMC also said those affected are from three regions — Ilocos, Central Luzon, and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

Central Luzon had the most affected population at 30,329 families or 95,104 individuals, the NDRRMC said.

The NDRRMC 617 families or 1,959 individuals were affected in the Ilocos region and 160 families or 211 individuals in CAR.

Of the total affected population, 1,025 families or 3,041 individuals remain displaced. They are either housed in evacuation centers or staying with relatives or friends.

The NDRRMC said 35 of 42 areas in Central Luzon remain flooded.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said more than P3.297 million worth of humanitarian aid from have already been distributed to over 34,000 families or 110,000 persons.

Social Welfare Assistant Secretary and spokesperson Irene Dumlao said the agency still has over P3 billion worth of standby funds, family food packs and non-food relief items. – With Jocelyn Reyes
