THE Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) – National Capital Region (NCR) is set to begin the wage review process for the minimum pay rate in Metro Manila next month.
In a radio interview, Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma said the NCR wage board is set to review the existing minimum wage rate in Metro Manila after the Labor Day celebration.
“In the coming month, the NCR wage board will begin the wage review process and a possible wage adjustment for this year,” said Laguesma.
He said the forthcoming wage review process is in accordance with the directive of President Bongbong Marcos Jr. for all RTWPBs to conduct regular and timely review of existing minimum wage rates.
“All RTWPBs were directed to hold a timely review, or about 60 days prior to the anniversary of the last wage order,” said Laguesma.
He said the review will primarily consider the prevailing cost of basic commodities and services in the NCR.
“The prices of basic commodities must be looked into so that they won’t be far off from the minimum wages of workers,” said Laguesma.
It was back on June 27, 2024 when the NCR wage board last issued a wage order for minimum wage earners, and it took effect last July 17, 2024.
The order raised the minimum wage rate in Metro Manila from P610 to P645 for the non-agriculture sector, and from P573 to P608 for the agriculture sector.
Wage Order No. NCR-25 directly benefited an estimated 988,243 minimum wage earners in the NCR.
