NBI to establish training academy in Alfonso, Cavite

NATIONAL Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Jaime Santiago yesterday said the agency is planning to establish an NBI Academy and Training Center in Alfonso, Cavite, to train more agents in the coming years.

Santiago said he had already discussed the matter with Alfonso Mayor Randy Salamat on his visit last July 1. He added that the latter is receptive to the idea of the town hosting such a facility.

“The mayor is receptive and promised to assist the NBI in this,” Santiago said.

Santiago said Alfonso is ideal to host such a facility, considering its location and cold climate.

The agency at present operates an academy in Baguio City where it trains aspiring agents.

The NBI is currently beefing up its personnel, particularly its anti-cybercrime unit.

Santiago said he also visited the town of Lian in Batangas, where he discussed with Mayor John Peji the latter’s request for the NBI to open a satellite office in the town.

He said he had already instructed the NBI Calabarzon regional office to fast-track the establishment of the office.
